The History of H&W

HW Leather Co. was founded in 2002 by Fred Werneck and Henrique Cardoso when the two set out to develop the perfect saddle tree that had an exceptional fit. Fred is one of Brazil’s most renowned horse trainers and competitors. He is a 10X Brazilian World Champion, 7X Futurity Champion, and has won the Congress 6 times.

In 2007, Fred relocated to the U.S. where his success has continued. Blair Burk rode Fred’s horse Time to Catch, also known as “TC”, at the National Finals Rodeo where he won the 5th round with a fast time of 7.2 seconds. In addition, Fred and TC were featured in the February 2008 edition of The Western Horseman Magazine.  In November of 2010, Western Horseman again did an article showcasing America’s greatest horses interviewing Fred and TC to highlight their success in the US.

After years of riding saddles made by numerous famous saddle makers, Fred and Henrique set out to take the best from the best and create their own tree made specifically for competitive calf roping horses. With fit for the horse and comfort for the rider in mind, the HW Leather Classic Calf Roper was created. After an overwhelming response and interest in the calf roping saddle, HW Leather Co. also developed the Elite All-Around Roper. Although distinctively made for team roping, the Elite All- Around saddle is a favorite amongst those also interested in calf roping. These saddles were made for ropers by ropers with the utmost attention to detail and durability, we are confident that they will not only meet, but exceed your expectations!
